We have a new look!  And I am not in seminary!  So, there is hope.  “Walking in the Light” is for youth and parents of FPC, along with anyone out there who wants to know what we are all about.  This site will be informative, engaging and entertaining.  Look for more articles, links and pictures.  Is anyone out there?!

Many of you are in the midst of exams.  It’s a busy time.  I know; I’ve been there.  I have been praying that God will give the energy and the focus to prepare and remember all that you have learned in school this semester.  Just one more day!

Since you have been so busy, I’m going to give you a break regarding the deadline to go on the Twin Lakes Winter Retreat, January 3-6.  If you would like to go, I need, at least, your $20 deposit by December 27th.  The church office will be open for business that day.  There are five youth committed at the moment, and I would like to take a lot more of you.  Let me know if you can attend.  If the cost of the retreat is “the issue” keeping you from attending, give me a call.

Schoooool’s … out … for Thanks-giv-ing!   But,  it’s not out forever.  Sorry.   (A little reference to Alice Cooper; you’re probably too young to know who that is.)  Anyway, in celebration of the Thanksgiving break, we’re having a movie/game night at the Burge House Tuesday night, November 20, from 6-10pm.  You will need to bring $3 a piece to pay for the pizza.  If you last name begins with A-Ho, bring a dessert; if Hu-Pa, bring a 12-pack of drinks; and if Po-Z, bring napkins, plates or cups.  Feel free to bring a friend or two.  If you have any questions, call me at the church (289-2435) or on my cell (601-421-1277).  See you there!

School is in session, but we haven’t gone on our back-to-school trip!  Despair no longer.  We are going to Memphis September 1st.  We’ll leave the church by 8:30 am Saturday morning.  We’ll have lunch at The Rendezvous, and then spend some time at Mud Island Park.  At 6:10pm, we’ll go see the Memphis Redbirds play the Nashville Brewers.  We should arrive home around midnight.  The cost is $15, which covers lunch, Mud Island Park, and the baseball game.  You will need additional money for dinner and souvenirs.  Call or email me at carroll@fpckosciusko.org by Friday August 24th, if you will be able to attend.

Senior High RYM was more than a week ago. Wow, time flies! All who went had an great time. Other than the intense heat, the weather was great. More importantly, the main speaker, Rev. Brian Habig, church planter in Greenville, South Carolina, did an excellent job explaining to us the truth of God’s Word. The theme of the conference was “Faith: Standing of the Promises.” In the course of five sermons, Brian reminded us that Christians are made to believe in the promises of God, that God’s promises are for those full of demerit, and that, through faith in Christ, we receive the promises of acceptance, change and restoration.

The youth who were able to attend this year were Jordan Bohrer, Hogan Briscoe, Mark Briscoe, Tyler Hulett, Chase McCraney, Daniel Power, Candace Camp, Rachel Camp, Danielle Davidson, Cambrey Pinkard, and Jordan Thomas. Cindy Camp and I served as chaperones. Camille and Joseph were able to attend as well since I was given the opportunity to teach a seminar. Pictures from the trip will be posted soon.

I hope you like the new look of the website.  I thought we needed a fresh start.  Let me know what you think.

Jr. High RYM was great!  Hannah, Heather, Kristi, Lauryl, Meredith and I had a ball.  The teaching was Biblical and convicting.  The main speaker, Chris “Buck” Rogers, RUF Campus Minister at Mercer University challenged us to really think about “What am I doing with Jesus?” and “What is Jesus doing with me?”  Good questions.  What do you really think about Jesus Christ?  Do you think of Him as your Lord and Savior?

Sr. High RYM will be just as good, I’m sure.  I’ll be teaching one of the seminars for 9-10th graders, but don’t go that one; check out someone that you don’t have to listen to each week.  We will be leaving Monday, July 9, at 7:30am.  So, get here a little earlier.  Here’s what you need to bring:  linens, pillows, towels (for beach and bath), notebooks, pens, Bible and spending money for available books, soft drinks, snacks and souvenirs.  You also need $30-40 for two meals on the road and a nice seafood dinner on Thursday night (there will be other options on the menu for those who do not like seafood).

Comment or email me at carroll@fpckosciusko.org if you have any questions.

Well, three months later, I haven’t delivered.  I had good intentions, yet I have not come through on making this site all it can be.  Again, I am sorry.

I’m not a natural blogger.  Even though blogging is not an innate talent of mine, I hope to develop it with time and practice.  So, here we go … again.

Next week, school will be out.  Yeah!!!  Since a lot of you will be around, I came up with some activities that we can enjoy together.

On Tuesday, March 13th , we will have another Sports Spectacular from 1-5pm.  This time, guys and girls are invited.  We will play ultimate frisbee, basketball, etc.

On Thursday, March 15th, we’re doing bowling and dinner in Starkvegas (some of you know it as Starkville).  We will bowl at Bulldog Lanes for two hours and then eat dinner at The Little Dooey.  Bring $10 for bowling and $10-15 for dinner.  We’ll leave the church at 2pm and be back by 8pm.

On Saturday, March 17th, you’re invited to Open House at my house from 7-10pm for fellowship, games and a movie.  Snacks will be provided but not a full dinner.

We are having Wednesday Night Youth Group as usual.   I hope to see you around next week.

Well, the last post, as you can plainly see, said that I would be regularly updating our website.  Obviously, I’ve done a horrible job at that.  It’s been a busy couple of months and, sadly, “The Rock” has taken a back seat to other priorities.  My goal, now, is still the same as it was in December.  I want “The Rock” to be a resource to you and your parents.  I will endeavor to update it, at least once a week.  If you notice that this is not happening, feel free let me know.
